How the pilot would work

Participation

A thoughtful setting comes first.

Care organisations, research teams, rehabilitation partners and community programmes can help shape the evaluation.

Suitability, informed consent, supervision, support, stop criteria, dates and eligibility are agreed before anyone participates.

What we need to learn

Can it distinguish instability from ordinary use, with fewer missed events and false detections?

Compare automatic counts with independently documented events and check for double counting.

Can families and care teams read trends beside cane-use time and missing data?

Is the cane practical, and does its information help people decide when to follow up?

Advance fall warning and fall-reduction outcomes would require separate future research.
